The Echelon 3 is Sauconys super-stable neutral shoe. With a wide base it is supportive enough for a mild overpronator as well as a neutral runner. It works well someone who needs some element of support but cant get on with anti-pronation shoes. The Echelon is also a particularly good choice for an orthotic wearer.
This third version of the Echelon running shoe is lighter and sleeker than ever. As with other shoes in their Geometry of Strong range theyve brought the heel:forefoot differential down to 8mm.This sets the foot up differently at point of impact, allowing the runner to strike further forward. Landing further midfoot, the leg is in a better position to take the impact of striking the ground. It also creates a more spring-like position which lets the runners leg coil and rebound and thus feel faster and run stronger.
Lowering the heel height also means the shoe does not need so much structure under the arch so Saucony have removed the midfoot support bridge which reduces weight and increases flexibility. Theyve also flared the shoe on the medial side and straightened it on the lateral side so you can land either on the heel or the midfoot.
The flex grooves running through the sole have been opened up to give an even smoother ride. The Echelon now has Sauconys Progrid cushioning all the way through from heel to forefoot. An SRC (Super Rebound Compound) crash pad provides additional shock absorption at the heel and theres HRC (High Rebound Compound) in the forefoot for an even softer toe-off.
Even the upper has been slimmed down: using less overlays and softer materials allows the upper to hug and move with the foot.
