The longer days mean we can go beyond the tarmac a little more and explore the trails and hills. At this virtual event we have two experienced trail and hill runners, offering tales from their experiences and advice on training and kit choices. Also tech expert and ultra runner John Samways from LA Sportiva on how they have grown form a small family company, still based in the Dolomites in Northern Italy, to be a world leader in climbing, hiking and trail running.
Event co-ordinated by Run and Become with LA SPORTIVA UK.
Based in Edinburgh and a member of leading hill running club Carnethy. As well as being a regular on the Scottish hill and trail running scene, Rachel has also competed throughout the UK and abroad with distinction. She was crowned Scottish ultra trail champion when winning the 53-mile Highland Fling race in 2018. Also a former winner of East Lothian’s John Muir Way.
A legend from the Lakes, trail and fell runner extraodinaire! Kim is a two-time GB ultra trail international, holder of the winter Bob Graham round record, as well as summer completions of the classic Lakeland Round. Kim has also guided and paced other runners on numerous other BG attempts. Not content with that, Kim is also the men’s Lakeland 24-hour record holder, when last year during lockdown he completed 78 summits – all over 2,000 feet – in 24 hours, running 90miles/145km in the process. He is also a qualified UKA coach and mountain leader. Well placed to offering advice indeed.
John is head of Sales and Marketing for Lyon Equipment, La Sportiva’s UK distributor, based in the Lakes. He is therefore incredibly well placed to geekily talk all things La Sportiva. He is also a very competent mountain and ultra runner in his own right, having multiple completions of 50 and 100 mile events, including Highland Fling, North and South Downs way, Lakeland 50 and UTMB. He talks on his own running experiences as well as key La Sportiva kit for the trails.
